Rev. John Geaney, Pastor

John serves as Pastor for 5th Avenue. John's been with us since December 2008.  Originally from the United Kingdom, John moved to Rome with his Wife Stacie and four children back in October  2008.  His undergraduate in Theology is from Westminster College, Oxford.  Following on from that John studied at Cornhill in a one year intensive of Biblical Exegesis. John previously served as associate minister at The Holy Redeemer Church, South London, and as Youth worker at Christ Church in East London.   John's passions are Jesus, his family, 5k running, rugby as well as a diehard Arsenal Soccer fan.

Mr. Chip Mitchell,  Music Director

Chip Mitchell serves Fifth Avenue Baptist Church as Music Director and as a Deacon.  In addition to his work at Fifth Avenue, Chip has recently gone into business for himself opening up ComForcare Senior Services of Northwest Georgia.  In this role Chip serves the needs of our aging population in Northwest Georgia through caregivers who provide care in clients homes so that they can maintain their dignity and independence as they age in place rather than have to move into an assisted living or nursing home.  In the past Chip has served as the Minister of Music at Antioch Baptist Church in Rome, GA as well as the Director of Alumni Services and Development at Shorter University.  In addition Chip serves as President of the Bettye Reed Scholarship Foundation which provides aid to students attending one of the four colleges and universities in Floyd County.

Mr. Joel Walker   Youth / College Director

Joel serves as Fifth Avenue's Youth and College Director. He was born and raised in Birmingham, AL, by godly parents, Marvin and Tricia Walker. After graduating from the University of Alabama, he sensed God's calling on his life to preach the Gospel of Jesus Christ vocationally. While in training at New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary, he worked as youth pastor at Calvary Baptist Church in Childersburg, AL. Upon graduating from seminary in December 2010, he was called to Fifth Avenue. Joel has many passions, such as family, being an uncle, friends, and Alabama football, but Jesus Christ is his first love.
 

Miss. Jenny Goresh  Children's Director

Jenny serves as Fifth Avenue’s Children’s Ministry Director. She is from Metro Atlanta and came to Rome to attend Berry College. She graduated from Berry in May 2011 with a Bachelor’s in Sociology, and felt deeply called to work with the kids here at Fifth Avenue Baptist. In her free time, Jenny enjoys cooking and cake decorating as well as reading and volunteering with Rome’s Youth for Christ.
